Native Resolution Problem

I am using a desktop running on Windows 7.

Is it true that if I get a widescreen monitor with a 1680 X 1050 resolution, rather than a 1920 X 1080 resolution, I will be able to eliminate the "annoying" white margins on each side of the monitor screen?

In essence, I am looking for a widescreen monitor (21.5" or so) what would be covered right to left, regardless if I am on the web or working on a document.

Thank you for your help.

The native resolution of the monitor will cover side to side, regardless of the resolution.

If you change the resolution to something other than the native resolution, then you may encounter resizing which may have bars.
