Acer Aspire V5 571G WLAN issues

I am running an Acer Aspire V5 571G on Win 8.

I have had a number of issues with the WLAN on this notebook, with the common issue that I have seen with the wi-fi, however I am unable to locate a suitable driver. Looking at the Acer website for drivers it doesn't seem to include an V5 models in the list that I am able to see.

Additional to the wi-fi dropping out intermittently, this notebook also experiences times when the WLAN driver will stop working altogether. When this happens I cannot access the network systems icon in order to try to reconnect or disconnect (although I am already disconnected). I have attempted to restart the driver when this issue occurs, but it will attempt to restart and crash, telling me that the driver isn't working.

The only method I have found to work for restoring the network capabilities is to tether it to my iPhone through a USB hotspot  (which doesn't always work) or restart the computer.

Even further additionally to this, most of the time when I attempt to restart my computer, the computer itself will crash and will restart saying that it had issues shutting down or it will freeze on the restart screen and I have to manually restart it using the power button.

Any advice, support or solutions would be greatly appreciated.

There is a large thread regarding Atheros WLAN connectivity here:

Quick Link to the .245 version of the driver:

    Hey there!

Im not sure about the startup issues - but the wifi issue sounds like a driver problem like you said. I experienced the exact same thing with my model. The drivers that you are looking for ARE available here on the Acer website, but when you're on the page looking for your aspire v5 model, it is NOT in the "Notebook" section as you would expect it to be.. at the bottom of the list there is an "ultra-thin" catagory - all aspire models are here. Once the list of drivers have loaded, don't forget to make sure the right operating system is selected.

When you DO get the wifi working, if/when you want to create a wifi hotspot, it's very complicated on windows 8.. After loads of research I found an extremely easy way to get this done. Feel free to mail me for advice at whittaker.dm@gmail.com ... no point you going through legwork that's already been done Smiley Happy

    Good luck!
