W3: Do you have to "summon" the keyboard?

What I mean is if I want to enter a url into an address bar, I tap to focus on the adress bar but then I had to manually bring up the keyboard?  Again, I compare to what I know - on my Playbook, when I tap into a data entry area (address bar) or replying to a message such as this, as I tap into such area, the PB's keyboard pops up for typing.  Is there a setting or is "summoning" the keyboard necessary?

I will admit I don't know much about what I think are NEW tablet oriented or designed apps where those apps are more conscious of this being a touch screen and might throw up the keyboard in similar circumstances versus using Firefox designed for "old" real keyboard based computers.

Again, I'm accessing data if I do decide to repurchase a W3.

No, it is not necessary to "summon" the keyboard.

It should be automatically appearing when you get to a text entry area.

Well, you have to select the text area for it to appear but should be automagic.
