Maximum memory for Aspire 8943G-6449

I'm pretty puzzled about this; I'm trying to definitively determine the maximum amount of RAM possible to install in an Aspire 8943G-6449.  I don't know very much about the notebook and i seems that this particular variant may have been a custom model sold by QVC.  Here's what I know:

1) According to this Acer specification, some models of the 8943G support 16GB of RAM.

2) The 6449 model appears to have been sold by QVC.  Their product specifications indicate that the model has an Intel Core i3-380M - and "4 DDR3 Slots (Total) - Expandable to 16GB"

3) But the i3-380M isn't even listed on the above Acer specification page as an option, and Intel's processor page indicates that the i3-380M supports a maximum of 8GB.  This seems contradictory.  Moreover, unless I'm misreading it, none of the first-generation core i7 processors listed by Acer appear to support more than 8GB of RAM, either.

Whom should I believe?  Short of buying RAM and installing it and seeing what happens... is there a way to find out if the 6449 really does support 16GB of RAM?  Does anyone here know of a i3-380M-based 8943G model with more than 8GB of RAM?  Note that I don't have the laptop on hand, so I haven't opened it to count DDR slots yet...

Thanks!
