I am seeking a genuine verdict on whether my laptop is behaving as a gaming machine should, or if I have a defective "lemon." I am a Computer Applications student and have been tracking the data closely. Here are the specific behaviors I am seeing:
1. Thermal Spikes at Low Wattage: Under load, my CPU hits 92°C while only drawing 32W. If I switch to Performance Mode, the CPU temperatures instantly reach 97°C to 100°C.
2. The Persistent 20W Lock (Limp Mode):
Once the CPU touches these 92°C+ temperatures, the laptop enters a "locked" state. The CPU power is capped at 20W-23W indefinitely. In this state, my benchmark scores drop significantly (Cinebench and gaming performance are cut nearly in half).
3. The Restart Bug: This 20W power lock persists after a normal restart. The laptop "remembers" the thermal event and keeps the power throttled. The ONLY way to get the laptop to run at full power again is to perform a full EC Reset (unplugging and holding the power button for 60 seconds).
4. My Concern:

Open the Start menu, type cmd, right-click it, and select Run as Administrator.

There is NO bios version 11.17 only the Acer version 1.11 which you should install,. The bios 11/17 might be the windows 11 update bios optional version 11.17 which is the Acer bios version 1.11. DO NOT update bios from the optional windows update as it bricks your laptop, always use the direct bios file for the PH16-72 from Acer.
The last bios 1.11 is cpu microcode update for the 14th Gen cpu of this laptop and its essential that you install this bios update as its been available since 18 August 2025 and fixes the overheating and the high voltage problems that these cpu's have.
Note: with you "Facing performance issues and errors during heavy work on Predator Helios PH16-72" be aware that if you are doing performance intensive heavy work on these laptops, I suggest that you upgrade the ram to at least a 64GB kit at 2x 32GB DDR5-5600MT/s CL46 type 262-pin SO-DIMM 1.1 volts ram or even a 96GB kit at 2x 48GB DDR5-5600MT/s CL 40 type ram.
