Re: Helios Predator Neo 16 AI USB-C/Displayport output problems.
I have an update. It is not working anymore; my monitor keeps flickering and I have re-install the driver if I reboot or turn off my laptop, and Windows keeps forgetting the HDR profile. So, I bought a Thunderbolt 4 Dock with Displayport ports, and I will try if that works. But again, thank you for your help.
Re: Helios Predator Neo 16 AI USB-C/Displayport output problems.
Try the below steps:
- Update Drivers and BIOS: You've already done this, but ensure you used the specific drivers from the official Acer support site for your model, including the Intel Management Engine and chipset drivers, not just generic ones.
- Reinstall Thunderbolt Controller Drivers:
- Open Device Manager (right-click the Start button).
- Expand the System devices category.
- Find the Thunderbolt Controller (it might be listed as "Thunderbolt Controller 1137" or similar).
- Right-click it and select Uninstall device (do not check the box to delete the driver software).
- Restart your laptop to allow Windows to reinstall the driver automatically.
- Disable "Fast Startup" in Windows: This has been a known fix for various USB-C and power-related issues.
- Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do (on the left sidebar).
- Click Change settings that are currently unavailable.
- Uncheck the box for "Turn on fast startup (recommended)".
- Click Save changes.

Re: Acer TC-780 Apire AT6W1 : Linux Mint - any drivers or other changes I must make in order to install the Linux Mint operating system
Just as a further and a better guide, have a look at this "Linux on Acer: A Comprehensive Guide" that is very useful and comprehensive as they have all the things that you need to do. Good luck and hope this helps you further.
Just for your information, Linux is a family of open-source operating systems based on the Linux kernel. It is known for its stability, security, and flexibility. There are various Linux distributions (distros) available, such as Ubuntu, Fedora, and Arch Linux, each with its own set of features and target user groups.
Re: Acer TC-780 Apire AT6W1 : Linux Mint - any drivers or other changes I must make in order to install the Linux Mint operating system
Hi nakayle,
You can install Linux Mint (or another Linux distribution) on your Windows 10 desktop without major changes. Here are the steps:
- Backup your data – Always make sure your important files are saved externally before installing a new OS.
- Download Linux Mint ISO – Get it from the official Linux Mint website.
- Create a bootable USB stick – Use a tool like Rufus or BalenaEtcher to write the ISO to a USB drive.
- Enter BIOS/UEFI – Restart your PC and press Del or F2 to enter BIOS. Set the USB drive as the first boot device.
- Boot from USB – Insert the USB stick and restart. The Linux Mint live environment will load.
- Test first – You can run Linux Mint in “Live Mode” without installing, to check compatibility.
- Install Linux Mint – Double‑click the installer icon on the desktop. You can choose to:
- Replace Windows 10 entirely, or
- Install Linux Mint alongside Windows 10 (dual‑boot).
- Follow installer prompts – Select language, keyboard, partitioning, and user account setup.
- Reboot – Remove the USB stick when prompted. Your system will boot into Linux Mint.
⚠️ Drivers: Most hardware is supported automatically. If you have special devices (Wi‑Fi, GPU), Linux Mint will install proprietary drivers after setup.

Re: intel 285h at over 200 degrees- cpu load when gaming it gets to over 225 degrees
The Intel® Core™ Ultra 9 Processor 285 36M Cache, up to 5.60 GHz has a shutdown temp limit of 115°C (240F) designed by Intel, so these Ultra 9, 7 and 5 cpu's are designed for these high temps, your cpu running at 93°C (200F) for browsing is ok if its just momentarily and this temp reduces, same with the gaming 107°C (225) temps that your laptop is reaching. If doing all the below settings and adding a laptop cooler doesn't help and your laptop is still under warranty, then send it to Acer Tech Support in your country and get the Acer tech to rectify the heating problems or change the mainboard of your laptop.
Make sure that you have set your gaming laptop up properly and have got Win-11 25H2 and all its updates to the last OS build: 26200.7462 and the bios up to date and the last NVidia Game Ready driver version 591.74 installed and you play all NVidia supported games through the NVidia app, as all this is essential.
Also these laptops with DDR5 love high capacity ram especially for gaming, and I would run your laptop at minimum 64GB ram, also buy a good laptop cooler like the Thermaltake Massive 12 Max, which I'm using with my PHN16-71 and its works great with gaming to keep the laptop at least 15°C cooler.
Also have a look at the community members GAMING6698 guide on gaming laptops settings, as that is also helpful and should reduce temps of your laptop. Good luck and let us know what the result is
