Re: TravelMate 5520 overheats, CPU fan spins then laptop powers off, Is it worth repairing?
The Acer TravelMate 5520 experiencing overheating and automatic shutdown could be worth repairing if the issue stems from a clogged fan or dried thermal paste, which are relatively inexpensive fixes. However, if the problem is a faulty motherboard or CPU, the cost of repair might outweigh the value of the laptop, making replacement a more practical option.
Factors to consider:
Cause of overheating:
Dust and debris: A common cause is dust buildup blocking the vents and fan, preventing proper cooling.
Dried thermal paste: The thermal paste between the CPU and heat sink can dry out over time, hindering heat transfer.
Failing fan: The fan itself might be malfunctioning and not spinning properly or at all.
Faulty motherboard or CPU: In some cases, the issue could be more serious, involving a failing motherboard or CPU.
Cost of repair:
Cleaning the fan and vents is a relatively inexpensive fix.
Replacing thermal paste is also a low-cost repair.
Replacing the fan can be moderately expensive, depending on the availability of parts.
Repairing or replacing the motherboard or CPU can be very expensive.
Age and condition of the laptop:
The TravelMate 5520 is an older model, and the cost of repair might be more than the current market value of the laptop.
Your technical skills: If you're comfortable opening up the laptop and cleaning the fan or replacing the thermal paste, you can potentially save on repair costs.
If you're not comfortable with disassembling and reassembling the laptop, you'll need to factor in the cost of professional repair.
Your needs:
If the laptop is still functional for your current needs after cleaning and replacing the thermal paste, it might be worth keeping.
If you need a more powerful laptop for demanding tasks, replacing the TravelMate 5520 with a newer model might be a better investment.

Re: Subject: Intermittent Audio Crackling with Audient iD14 MK2 on Acer Laptop (wdf01000.sys)
This is a compatibility issue with the Audient iD14 MK2 interface and your Nitro AN16-42 laptop, you need to consult Audient. But, I would suggest that you do the following steps below and see if you can connect this interface to your Nitro laptop after doing all the below uninstalls and reinstalls:
- Completely uninstall then do a clean reinstall of the Realtek audio,
- Use the DDU uninstaller in "Safe Mode" to uninstall the AMD cpu graphics and audio and the NVidia audio and graphics drivers
- Then reinstall all these drivers with the oem Acer initial sullied drivers from the Nitro AN16-42 support page.
As using DDU will clean all drivers off your Nitro AN16-42 and reinstall all these drivers fresh so there are no faulty drivers that can be an issue and should stops the "intermittent audio crackling and popping when using my Audient iD14 MK2 audio interface" otherwise, its a compatibility issue with the Audient iD14 MK2. Good luck and lest us know how it worked out.

Re: So I want to upgrade the storage on my laptop, namely the Acer Swift Go 14 sfg14-73. What is the maximum total storage capacity
There are two M.2 PCIe x4 slots, which support Gen 4 SSDs – one is positioned to the right of the battery, and the second M.2 slot is concealed under the ribbon cable near the fans (red squares on picture)
a fast Gen4 SSD is the Samsung 990Evo Plus up to 2TB or more

Re: So I want to upgrade the storage on my laptop, namely the Acer Swift Go 14 sfg14-73. What is the maximum total storage capacity
This laptop has two M.2 PCIe x4 slots. Acer has tested upto 1TB but users have successfully installed larger drives such as 2TB Samsung 980 Pro, and theoretically, the slots can handle up to 8TB SSDs based on current technology.

Battery Drain on Acer Laptop During Sleep Mode
Hi everyone,
I’ve noticed that my Acer laptop is losing a noticeable amount of battery even when it’s in sleep mode. For example, if I put it to sleep at around 80%, after several hours it sometimes drops to 60% or lower.
I wanted to ask:
- Is this a common issue with recent Acer models, or could it be related to my specific settings?
- Are there BIOS or Windows power management adjustments that help reduce battery drain during sleep?
- Would switching to hibernate instead of sleep make a big difference in long-term battery health?
I’ve already updated drivers and BIOS, but the issue still persists. Curious to know if anyone else has dealt with this and what solutions worked best for you.
Thanks in advance for your advice!
