Hello have an old acer F6 and installed XP from disc  with a view to using it for games so have not connected it to the internet, however every time I power up and log on I get a "lets activate XP" message.Anybody know how to disarm this requirement in windows please. Have trawled the web and tried various fixes but none have worked and the day counter keeps counting down so its looking like a de install,re install every 30 days.Greatfull for all advice. thanks Ally

    ally,

There is a method to activate by phone if you do not have Internet access.

Hi acer justin  yes I am aware of this method but I just want to use the OS on an additional PC which I will not have connected to the internet . I am looking for a" workaround" which will stop the activation requests and also stop the windows xp from locking me out after 30 days .Windows do not like you using the same xp disk on more than one pc even if you have legit purchased  and own the disk.(we like to get our moneysworth in Scotland !!) If anyone knows a "how to" I am interested cheers thanks Ally

Hello folks I have "discovered" linux ubuntu "black lab" freeware OS and it does not require activation,so its cheerio to XP ,hello black lab.I got a used matx 775 4 slot ram mobo(fleabay) to replace the 2 slot ram one ,swapped over the 3.1ghz pcu stuck in 4x 1gb ram(fleabay) and fired it up and installed ubuntu yesterday ,so its new to an oldie like me but already I find it a lot smarter than windows so it is opening up a whole new pc horizon for me.Lots more to learn! cheers, cheerio .
