Is there a way to retrieve my activation key to install Windows 10?
Hi,
I recently had to reformat my Acer Aspire E14 since the reset did not work and I was having all sort of problems with the laptop. A friend of mine installed Windows 7 and told me that he cannot install a licensed Windows 10 in my laptop.
I used to have Windows 10. I was wondering if there is a way for me to find the activation key somewhere in my laptop OR will Windows automatically recognize my device if I try to upgrade to MS OS 10?
Your input will be appreciated.
Thanks!

Hi,
Yes, the activation key information is stored in BIOS and Windows 10 installation will find it, you don't need to do anything.

Hi,
Windows 10 installation will find the key automatically as it's embedded in BIOS.

I have limited knowledge on tech stuff, I appreciate your guidance.
Would the activation key still be there if the laptop was reformat and downgraded to Win 7?

There are some third party programs as from NIRSOFT that can retrieve the keys including from BIOS so that you may record and keep in a safe place.0
