I note the Aspire x1920 is not on the Acer supported list (disappointing and why?!). If there isn't a solution I shall have to return to windows 7

Intel has been gradually working on updating drivers for their embedded graphics, so it'll improve automatically over time. If it's too much to handle right now, try installing the Windows 8.1 version in compatibility mode to see if that helps performance.

Thank you - I've actually solved it by changing my display settings from 1024x768 (which it automatically goes to with windows 10) to 1280x768.
