Acer Aspire SA90 does not have SATA options in BIOS

Hi, I am trying to install a new SSD SATA drive (Crucial MX100 256M) as the second SATA drive and it will not connect via SATA. I have connected via USB with an adapter cable and that works fine but I want SATA for speed and so I can eventually use it as as system drive.

This is quite an old machine, I think bought in 2007, running Vista (Vista had just come out when I bought it).

When I look at the Standard CMOS Features in BIOS on my system it shows:

>IDE Channel 0 Master - Hitachi DVD drive

>IDE Channel 0 Slave - [None]

>IDE Channel 1 Master - Current HDD (plugged into SATA1 port on motherboard)

>IDE Channel 1 Slave - [None]

If I look at the Aspire SA90 AcerPower S290_SG.pdf it shows

>IDE Channel 0 Master - DVD drive

>IDE Channel 0 Slave - [None]

>SATA Channel 1 Master [None]

>SATA Channel 2 Master [None]

Why am I not seeing my disk drives as SATA? Do I need to update the BIOS?

Have you checked on BIOS if SATA is enabled as AHCI (true SATA support) or IDE?

There does not seem to be any option to enable SATA, nor AHCI for that matter.

If someone can tell me where I find these options that would be helpful, but I am wondering if I need to upgrade the BIOS. And if so how do I do this?

there's only 1 BIOS available on Acer support site, check the version with yours.

I downloaded the BIOS as the date is certainly more recent than mine, however when I run winflash it all seems to update properly, reboots, and then the BIOS has not changed. What am I doing wrong?

date can mean nothing, must check version.

Thanks you're right I was already on R01-C0 which is the same as the one downloaded which is why nothing changed.

So updating my BIOS is not an option, as its already the same as the one available on acer.com, any other ideas how to resolvethis anyone?
