How can you permanently turn off the red keyboard lights on a V17 Nitro?

I can turn off the red lights with the F9 key, but they don't stay off: the lights turn back on as I continue to work.

Is there a way to PERMANENTLY turn off the red lights? I love the laptop but HATE the red lights.

Thanks.

    arv,

The only method to turn off the backlit keyboard is to press the FN-F9 keys together. They will come back on when you reboot: How does the keyboard backlight work on my Acer Nitro?

This is not very good, it's the one thing that annoys me about the V Nitro - why does it need garish red keyboard lights to always come on when the design is otherwise muted (Black Edition)?

This is a pretty old thread but I figured out a way. I have the v15 nitro black edition and I have it set up so that it never turns on. I assume it's a similar process for the v17. I wouldn't recommend this is you've never taken a laptop apart before. But if you're willing to experiment....

Also I assume no responsibility for what you may do to your system.

    1) Remove screws from back of machine. This will allow you to ultimately remove the keyboard. You can probably find a video on youtube how to do this.

    2) There are 4 cables that connect the keyboard to the motherboard. One is for the actual keyboard (registers key strokes), one is for the trackpad, one is for the keyboard backlighting (the ugly red that we all hate), and one is for the red backlight line that is close to the hinge of the laptop

    3) The trackpad attachment is close to underside of the actual trackpad. (keep this attached or reattach if you need to disconnect this)

    4) The keyboard cable is the largest cable (keep this attached or reattach if you need to disconnect this)

    5) If you look at the motherboard, the backlight connector is labeled KB_BL1. I assume this stands for keyboard backlight 1. If you don't want the red keys to ever turn on disconnect this cable

    6) The connector for the red backlight line close to the hinge is located all the way towards the top of the motherboard (closest to the hinge).

Do this at your own risk. It worked perfectly for me. I can now safely bring the laptop to my professional work environment without risking it looking like a "gaming laptop" at the office.

    Enjoy!
