Acer Aspire Nitro V15 Black Edition poor wireless internet

I have just today bought the Acer Aspire Nitro Black Edition, and the wireless internet connection is EXTREAMLY slow. Just to open like YouTube it takes like 5 minutes. And on Steam when i download a game the download speed is 200 BYTES pr second. Its not KB or MB its actually bytes. Meaning when i want to download a 12 GB game it says that it would take over a year to be compleated. This has gotta be some kind of error, in the computer. My old computer is a Acer Aspire 5755G and i bought in from about two years ago but decided it was time to something new. But my old computer runs the internet fine. On my new comuter it says: "Up to 2X faster wireless". So this is gotta be an error. Please answer as fast as possible, because i was actually hoping to use the computer since i paid 1180,50 dollars for it. I had to write this post on my old computer because the new one is just to slow so it would take hours to load the page up. I would suggest calling Acer Technical Support and see about having the unit brought in for service for testing to make sure there isn't a hardware issue.

I received the laptop on March 19th and I start having wireless connection issue. I went through the Acer Discussion Forum and found some recommendations to repair the problem and resolved the issue for good, it seems. I did the followings:

Disabled “U-APSD Support” under Device Manager/ Network Adapters / Intel dual band wireless / Advanced Setting
Applied the "Patch" you suggested

I have the same laptop and my wifi is fine, either its an error and you have to get a new laptop or you have bluetooth enabled whily having wifi enabled which causes your wireless being slow.

From what ive read on the internet, bluetooth and wifi are sharing the same network card or antenna which causes the slowdowns, ive tested it and with bluetooth enabled my wifi is also as slow as yours, without its as fast as my connection can get (50mbit).

I have the same problem, though my wifi adapter is not an Intel but Qualcom. I turned off bluetooth but no change... Connection is frequently dropping and getting slow at times. This occurance is much more notecable when I'm 5-10 meters away from the access point. None of the laptops that I had in the past have had this issue (HPs and Dells). I expected things to get better in this price range (1500 e)...

I have an VN7-591G V Nitro - it has the Intel Dual Band AC-7265 wireless adaptor. The laptop continually drops connection with the wireless router in my home. Strange thing is I have an HP laptop and a Nexus tablet sat right next to the Acer and yet they do not experience any droppage. When it happens on the Acer the message: You are not connected to any Networks is shown. And a button to Fix Connection Problem is available. When I press this the solution in nearly every case seems to be: Resetting the Network Adaptor. I have tried everything I know, latest adaptor drivers, patches from Acer Support. Power setting changes. But the problem persists. Please anyone can you help with this issue - it is driving me mad.

I had same problem, but I got it resolved doing the followings:

Disable “U-APSD Support” under Device Manager/ Network Adapters / Intel dual band wireless / Advanced Setting
Applied the "Patch" from Acer website for WiFi issue.

In my case, the WiFi connection issue did not have anything to do with Blutooth on or off.

Could you please provide the link to the Patch? Also, do you know what should be disabled in network adapter settings if your laptop came with Qualcomm Atheros adapter instead of Intel? It has a different set of featers and U-APSD support is nowhere to be found..

I have 3 Nitro V15 Black laptops. One came with Intel WiFi card and the other two came with Qualcomm card. With Qualcomm there is no setting I talked about. It was only for Intel card. In this case, just apply the patch provided by Acer. Why is my wireless signal strength low after changing power settings?

Wireless signal strength may decrease when Windows Power Options are set to High Performance. Acer has published an update to correct this issue.

Visit theDrivers and Manuals section of Acer support website.
Enter your Serial Number/SNID or search for your product by Model.
Choose your Operating System from the drop down menu.
Select thePatch
Click theDownload link for the file you want to download.
Right-click the downloaded ZIP-file and then clickExtract All Files. Double-click the folder that has the same name as the downloaded file.
Next, double-click theWindows
Double-click theAHCI_Control_ALU executable file, the installation is automatic.

Starting March 1, 2015, impacted models will start receiving Acer Live Update alerts. We recommend installing the alert labeled "Update the Windows Power Plan settings to improve wireless performance".

I recommend you check which Wi-Fi card it came with.

If you have a Qualcom brand card, the patch should work fine.

If you have a Intel card, you may try to disable “U-APSD Support” under Device Manager/ Network Adapters / Intel dual band wireless / Advanced Setting. Qualcom does not have this function.

If you still have the same issue, turn off the Bluetooth (if you have one) to see if Wi-Fi will operate normally.

This is another manufacturing fault of these acers.

I have V15 Nitro and I have same poblems (and I am not alone). I found hundreds of acer owners having same issue. Qualcomm Atheros wifi card in my laptop simply drops packets and latency excesses 3seconds sometimes. This issue is well known by ACER but they dont care at all. Patch they issued is simple nonsense. Only thing it does, it switches cooling to passive mode. Cooling fans obviously has something to do with this issue, maybe interference with wifi card. But turning fans off IS NOT SOLUTION by any means!!! They are needed andturning them off causes dramatic drop in performance!

Please ACER, show off and do something and take responsibility for your defective product and offer working resolution!

I have Qualcom card. I did have applied the patch. But the problem persists.

1. Connection drops with no apparent cause

2. Speed drops

3. Signal drops

4. Won't reconect automatically (i have to manually connect each time)

5. Takes few tries to connect

Someone mentioned somewhere that the card outspec the router. I wisht that could solve the problel. At least bying a new router is not as expencive as bying another lapop...

I did see that posting you are talking about, but that does not make any sense, since all drivers for latest WiFi cards are backward compatible unless you have one of the routers from Stone Age.

I assume I have exactly the same Qualcomm card as you in (2) of my (3) V15 Nitro Black laptops. The other one has Intel card. I initially had same connection issues with the Intel card, but that issue has been solved by doing the recommended changes and they all work fine. I have no problem taking all 3 laptops to any place that has WiFi connection and use them. These computers were bought in last 3 months from Amazon.com in two seperate times.

I recommend you uninstalling your driver for the card from “Device Manager” and get new driver from Acer website and install it. See if this will resolve the issue. The patch you did may not include hardware driver updates. It is just a software patch for interfacing program between the card and the rest of the laptop hardware, I think. If this does not work, like Acer Tech Support suggested, return it to Acer for repair. They have said some WiFi cards in the laptops were bad.

I have a similar problem on my v15 Nitro - Black Edition. In my case the wireless connection is okay for 5-10 minutes after I start the PC, then it just drops out. If I disconnect from the wireless network when I try to reconnect it says there are no network connections available. The wireless card is Intel so I have made the configure change suggested in this article, however when I attempted to apply the patch I found that I already have a later version of the driver. I believe that the problem is localised to this PC because I have another PC, an iPad and a mobile phone all of which are using the wireless network without any issues.

Can anyone help? In the absence of any suggestions my next step is to go back to Currys where I bought the machine.

I have a 17in Nitro version that came with the problematic Atheros W222.

I tossed the W222 and bought from ebay:

Atheros Sparklan WNFQ-255ACN(BT) M.2/NGFF 802.11AC 867mbps Wlan+Bluetooth 4.1

I also bought from eBay new antennas for that card because I tossed the Acer ones which were IMO badly installed:

MHF4 Laptop/Embedded Dualband Antenna for WIFI WLAN Bluetooth NGFF/M.2 Module

After many hours of testing I found out that Acers installment of wifi antennas did not give me good results and problem presisted with the new card, even tho internet worked alot better: drops were rare but speeds were low.

The best speeds and signal strenght I got with the following placement for the antennas (picture of the actual computer):

So buying new wifi card and 2 antennas for it solved the problem for me. Blazing fast internet now with zero drops Smiley Happy

Total cost was around 75 euros. And this procedure will avoid your warranty. I did not care about it, thats why I did it.

I also did some research and found out that newer models come with Atheros QCA61x4 which is actually the same card linked in this thread. After Googling some threads about wifi issues with QCA61x4 still appeared. So it must be the card and the placement of antennas (maybe software details aswell) that cause the wifi problems to people.

So to sum up: if your Acer is experiencing WiFi connectivity issues, I recommend all kinds of software hacks first. They can all be found via simple Google search. I remember techniques like deleting card from dev manager and letting it reappear. Some also claimed that disabling bluetooth or playing around with bands and other values in dev manager cards properties gave good results. And if none of the software solutions work for you, go with the hardware. For this card be sure to upgrade driver that is installed automagically upon bootup, by going to dev manager and manually updating device driver from there. It will find a new version which as of now is v12.0.0.128 with a release date 30.07.2015.
