Hi, I have been given an acer aspire v5 but I cannot connect to wifi. Been into network adapters and there is a bluetooth icon, an Ethernet icon but no wireless. Is there a driver I can download?

I tried to download two from acer website but neither installed properly as I apparently already have more up to date versions and I disabked Ethernet as suggested on another post I saw yesterday but that hasn't fixed it either.

    Windows logo key + x
    click on Device manager

click on View tab and select "show hidden devices"

any red cross or yellow exclamation mark?

if it's listed....the adapter is here, double click it and check for any errors or if marked as disabled.

Just noticed in properties it says - currently this device is not connected to the computer (code 45)

To fix this problem, reconnect this hardware device to the computer

Can't see a way of reconnecting though

if you right click it, can you select uninstall?

if so, uninstall the Atheros, reboot and check on device manager again.

I have done that but still no good. Telling me the drivers I have installed are more recent than the one I am installing. Any chance of a link to the correct driver in case I am downloading the wrong one?

still no good. tried the link but the download would not work on my laptop so went back to acer and downloaded driver fro there and it says the wireless adaptor has been installed but there is nothing showing in device manager (including hidden) and I have checked network and sharing centre - change network adaptors and no wireless adaptor showing in there either

Yes but that just turns airplane mode on and off. No mention of wifi and when I use the wifi toggle, it says wifi is on but if you close the window and reopen its off again and wifi light never comes on

ok, at the end i think you have a faulty WiFi adapter, it's better to contact Acer support service.
