aspire V3-472G ethernet not working

Hi all,

I've recently noticed an issue with my Internet being slow, so I thought I would switch from wifi to a wired ethernet connection. However, my Aspire V3-472G does not seem to recognize that it has an ethernet port! Under network adapters, it only lists the Broadcom 802.11n adapter. I tried downloading the Realtek ethernet drivers from the Acer Drivers, but it just says "The Realtek Network Controller was not found. If Deep Sleep Mode is enabled Please Plug the cable [sic]".

Any thoughts on what to do about this?

The problem starts when the computer goes into sleep/standby mode, a few components of the PC including the network controller (or adapter) are turned off. The issue occurs when the PC wakes up and power to everything is restored and the network controller doesn’t come on.

Power On the computer and keep taping the F2 key as soon as you restart the computer since windows 8.1 loads too fast.

Please press the F9 key and then select "Yes" to load default and save the configuration.
Then press the F10 key and select "Yes" to save the changes in BIOS.

The computer would restart automatically.

This should wake up the network controller.

Once you have it working, to make sure the network controller doesn’t go into sleep mode again, try this:

Press and hold the Window logo key and tap X on your keyboard to open device manager.

Click Network Adapters to expand the section.

The adapter would be listed.

Double-click the Realtek Network Controller

Choose the Power Management tab

Untick “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power”.

Thanks for your quick response! I followed your instructions and reset the BIOS settings to their defaults, but I'm afraid that nothing has changed -- still no Ethernet controller in Device manager and no wired network access. I've tried different cables and even different ports around the house.

You may disconnect the adapter, remove the battery , press and hold the power button for 30 seconds, then power ON the computer by connecting only AC adapter and check if the Reltek adapter is listed in device manager.

The other fix is to reset the motherboard and the best way to reset your motherboard is to remove your RAM chips. Leave them out for some time 10 minutes and put them back in. motherboard will be reset and the network controller will come out of deep sleep mode!

Thanks again for your reply. I tried shutting off the computer, disconnecting the battery, holding the power button and then plugging the computer back in and turning it on, all to no avail.

I also tried to open up the laptop to replace the RAM, but my laptop does not have a separate back component for the RAM/HDD as some other Aspire laptops do, so I would have to take out the entire back to take out the RAM. I took out all 24 screws and started trying to open up the back of the laptop, but it wasn't giving very easily and I got worried about breaking a USB port/headphone jack. Is there any way to reset the motherboard via other means (such as a BIOS flash), or is taking out the RAM the only way to do so?
