Hello everyone

I'm currently thinking about getting a new processor for my laptop. It currently has:

 - I5-4200M #dualcore @2.5GHz

 - GTX 760M

 - 10GB RAM

 - 750GB HDD

I'm thinking about getting the I7-4700QM (and NOT THE i7-4702QM or THE i7-4712QM), which is a 4-core at 2.4GHz.

What about BIOS compatibility ?

I also know about the 10W higher TDP, but I'm currently running at max 75°C during stress period. So I'm not worried about overheat.

Thanks !

Hi, I just made a cpu upgrade (Pentium B960 to i5) on a toshiba laptop. Here is my experience and my advise. Be carreful to your chipset and check chipset compatibility at first.

In my case, my laptop run like a charm with i5 ... but with just one problem due to intel chipset limitation. Why ? Because intel and pc maker dont want customer can upgrade CPU easily, it is better for them we buy an another PC and some chipset are reserved then for low, middle an high end

So in my case (my fault cause I havent check chipset compatibility), i5 run perfectly (reconize by win, temperature is ok) but intel limitation chipset just turn off power (like you remove battery) every 30minutes ... so brutal. Smiley Sad

Woh, well I see, but hopefully, this won't be my problem...

I'm doing researches on a i7-4702mq, which I know is compatible, but still, the 4700mq is better.

Thanks for sharing your experience, I'll remember that.
