V17 when "Shut Down" it will not re-start. It hangs. I have to crash and then it starts OK

Had this probelm after the automatic W10 upgrade.

I had it working perfectly and hibernating too.

When I close the computer either shut down or sleep and go to restart the acer screen comes up without the spinning wheel.

It just hangs

I have to hold the off button till it crashes and then restarts normally.

I have tried hibernate -h off and on

I have tried all sorts of settings in the power configuration settings

Hibernate no longer available at all.

Normally when a computer fails to hibernate it is because it has not had a clean shutdown and something in the registry prevents it from doing so.

My recommendation would be to run the usual diagnostics like defrag, scan for malware, use ccleaner to check the integrity of the file system and let it run updates and shutdown completely, if need be run the battery to almost empty and then power cycle it by charging to 100% and draining to 0%.

If you post your full model number including CPU, I can probably give you a couple suggestions.

First, make sure you have created a factory default USB recovery drive.

Make sure you don't have anything plugged in to USB ports and check to see if it still hangs.

If you still have problems, go in to BIOS and load defaults (F9) and then save/exit (F10).

    Try using system restore.

And lastly, unfortunately I would probably make sure my files are backed up and just start over.  You can spend hours (days) trying to troubleshoot something like that.  Reset computer to factory condition.

After your computer is stable from the recovery, check Acer Care Center for updates.  Or check Acer website for updates.  Don't try to update your BIOS while your computer is in its current state of occasionally hanging.  That might cause you more trouble than you bargained for.  Smiley Happy

OK.  There is an automatic W10 update that just arrived and installed.

Had no idea it would fix the issue, but it did!

No more shut down/ restart issues.

Have not attempted tose the hibernate functions yet.

Will test after I create a resstore point
