Hello,
I have Acer VN7-791G-77GZ laptop and Crucial CT512M550SSD1 SSD drive. My laptop don't recognized disk drive on boot, but recognized it after reboot. Also laptop hangs after wake up from sleep.

So, how it happens:

  1.    Laptop is turned off.
  2.     I turn it on and it shows "Default Boot Device Missing or Boot Failed". No disk drives recognized by BIOS in boot section.
  3.     If I simply reboot it, it won't recognize disk.
  4.     If I boot it from Mint liveUSB it will booted.
  5.     GParted from liveUSB can recognize drives. Drives are mountable.
  6.     I reboot laptop. Now SSD drive recognizable by BIOS. BIOS can see GRUB and Windows Boot Manager.
  7.     So after reboot i've boot Windows 10. Windows can work for dozen hours without problems, but laptop hangs if it goes to sleep.

BIOS upgrade to v1.11 don't help. SSD firmware upgrade to MU02 don't help too.

can be some incompatibility between BIOS and SSD controller but...we need some other informations:

did you have this issue even with one OS?

if you enter BIOS after a cold boot, SSD is listed on BIOS information tab?

    Hello, IronFly.
    1. I have this issue with both mint 17.X and windows 10 installed on disk with UEFI bootloader.
    2. After cold boot SSD is not listed anywhere in BIOS. After reboot after boot from liveUSB SSD is listed in info tab and boot tab.
    3. In past i had two disk HDD+SSD configuration with bootloader installed on HDD. But HDD has died. I can't prove that SSD was listed in BIOS after cold boot when HDD was alive. Probably wasn't listed.

At this point, i can only think at some incompatibility as i told you.

if you can, try with another SSD, i know...not the cheapest solution. Smiley Happy
