My sister has an Acer Aspire V5-531 series laptop. The Model number is MS2361.

So.. I live in a small town and I fix people computers.. by fix I mean run AV and MW tools, install new keyboards.. and occasionally reformat pc's. (I have refromatted a PC about a billion times.)

My sisters laptop is about 3+ years old now. and came with Windows 8 OEM pre loaded. Over the holidays she had mentioned that it was getting slow and she would just like to reformat it and check out Windows 10.

So.. being that I have done that for people a billion times.. I said I would do it.

It took me a bit to get the computer to boot from CD, but I was able to install a copy of Windows 7 and once that was installed upgrade to Windows 10. Everything was fine and dandy until ALL the updates where done and we booted up to the desktop.

[This is what the screen looked like](http://i.stack.imgur.com/L32yp.jpg)

[Another example](/t5/image/serverpage/image-id/6441iA39BDA820B181BA0/image-size/small?v=mpbl-1&px=-1)

So I thought it was a driver issue. Couldn't fix it for the life of me. Then Someone suggested that I plug in another monitor via HDMI cable. I plugged in my 60 inch TV and BAM.. crystal clear fully functioning Windows 10. (It's JUST corrupted on the laptop screen as soon as it hits the desktop... Load screens and safemode work perfectly.)

After some research it turns out it's a Windows 8 certified security system [UEFI & Secure Boot](http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/installing-windows-8-pro-over-standard-oem-in-your-new-win8-certified-notebook.698920/)

I would like to try the work around and at LEAST get Windows 8 back on the laptop.. but now the Bios has [locked](http://biosremoval.com/images/acer-unlock-key-hint-bios-password.JPG) itself. and I can't get the PC to boot from a USB OR DVD.

The lock key I get is [BA2BE493] However.. it has changed a few times.

Help.. please.. I CAN'T afford to replace this laptop.. there has GOT to be a way to get it back to at least functional.

TLSmiley Very HappyR: Tried to install Windows 10 on a 5 year old Windows 8 "Certified" laptop.. and now I am locked out of the Bios and at a loss as to how to fix it.. Please I have been working on this for 4 weeks and I can't fix it!

Help..

    Anyone?

I just need a hint on how to unlock the Bios.. even if the answer is "Send Acer $300" I just need to know where to start.

I feel like I am now the proud owner of an expensive paper weight. Like I was setup from the start..

    Couple updates.

I have tried to reset the Bios password by removing the Cmos battery for 30+ mins.

I have tried to reset the Bios via the Cmos jumpers.

This is really frustrating. 2 months I have been working on this every day. I have sent Emails to Acer support.. and still nothing.

    Please..

Hi, you can try updating the bios in my post here:  http://community.acer.com/t5/V-and-VN-Series-Laptops/V5-473p-Others-Updating-bios-with-Black-Screen-Solution/m-p/429077#U429077

I had a blurry screen also until it wouldn't boot anymore.  Another member's post has the same blurry screen problem here:  http://community.acer.com/t5/V-and-VN-Series-Laptops/Aspire-V5-571G-Help-with-black-screen-corrupt-BIOS/m-p/431746#U431746

Just follow the directions, also, I used rufus (it's a free bootable usb tool) to format the usb drive.  I used the uefi/both setting to reformat the usb.  Let me know if it helps.

    Hi Oddwin,

Sorry, for the delay in responding. I would suggestion contacting Acer support. In the US/Canada they do provided a BIOS unlock service for 99$.

Edit: Also, I missed the email comment. Email support has not been available for a couple of years, so I'm not sure who you have been emailing. Here is our current contact information: http://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/service-contact

    Thanks,
    Cory
