    Hey PhilipB,

I looked for an Acer V5-57P on their website but couldn't find it.  Are you sure that's your model number?

Anyway, here's what I what do.....

    1. I would make a factory default USB recovery drive and put it in a safe place (you'll need a little USB thumb flashdrive---the software will tell you how many GB's it needs to be).  I put mine in plain white envelope and labeled it.  Then I put it in a drawer so I wouldn't accidentally use it.

    2.  Then I would create a drivers and apps backup (I used a DVD for this because it's cheaper Smiley Wink )

    3.  Next I would save all my important files to a backup USB drive or to cloud with something like OneDrive. (you can't use your USB recovery drive for this!!) If you do use OneDrive or the cloud, just remember it can sometimes take a long time to upload your files to the cloud depending on your ISP upload speed.  In other words, don't start the next step until your important personal files are backed up.

    4.  And then I would fully reset my PC to factory condition using Acer's builtin recovery software.

    5.  After it finishes......I would just keep checking Windows update until my computer got fully updated with all the windows updates.  Some of the updates require you to restart your computer.  And then you can manually check again.  I wouldn't install any other software such as your printer software or connect any third party peripherals until after it updates to Wiindows 8.1.  This is going to take a while depending on your internet speed.

    I'm not an Acer employee.
