Aspire V15 Nitro - touchpad problems again

Hello,

as many users I'm also not happy with touchpad on Nitro V15. I know it is a precision touchpad designed to use gestures etc. This is not my problem, I quite like it. The problem is that there is a delay when I first time move (touch) the touchpad. So if I want to move my cursor just a short distance, touchpad does not recognize that I'm touching (moving) it. It is definitely a driver issue as in Linux there is no such delay.

Is it pssible to resolve it somehow? Many users complaint on this and it looks Acer is not going to update its drivers...

Thank you for any advice.

    mario21,

We do have a Windows 10 driver posted on our support site dated 8/28/2015, if you have upgraded to Windows 10 already. The other option, if you have upgraded, is not install our posted driver and let Windows 10 install the driver.

Thanks for suggestion Justin but it does not help. I believe you are referring to TouchPad Synaptics driver 19.0.7.33 which is available on Acer drivers page (my laptop is VN7-571G and it is already upgraded to Win 10).

I also tried uninstall the driver from my laptop and let windows to install it itself but it did not help too. Windows installed exactly the same driver, i.e. 19.0.7.33. The delay when touching the touchpad first time is really annoying and it should be resolved...

    mario21,

Go to your mouse settings through PC settings and adjust the very bottom option where it talks about preventing the cursor from accidentally moving.

    Hi Justin,

this has nothing to do with the settings you are mentioning. I already tried all those setting, currently I have "No Delay" and the problem still persists.

I found that this problem which I'm describing is on all V Nitro models. I personally tried except my laptop still 2 others (different models) and there is exactly the same issue with touchpad. Many users not find it as they use external mouse.

Just a question Justin - do you have a Nitro laptop? If yes, try to put your finger on touchpad and very slowly move your finger. You will see that mouse cursor will start moving after approx. 1 second (the delay depends on how fast you are moving with your finger). If you will make fast move you will not recognize that delay. Also if you will try moving by your finger on touchpad in whatever direction approx. 2-3 mm, you will see that mouse cursor on screen will never change its position. It is because the touchpad does not recognize so short movement BUT only when you touch the touchpad first time. When the cursor is already in movement, the touchpad responds perfectly and recognize also short distances without any problem. It is hard to explain it is better to try it yourself. During some operations (in some applications) it's really irritating...

I made a quick check and you can read about this problem e.g. on following sites. I included only English speaking pages but in other languages you will find also many articles describing this issue.

    mario21,

We do have a couple Nitro notebooks here that I was able to test this out with. I can confirm that it does have a very short delay before doing anything when moving my finger very slowly. Moving my finger at normal speed using the touch pad did not experience this issue, it does appear that it is working as designed. If the mouse needs to be used at very slow speeds with no delay you might want to purchase an external mouse to use.

    Justin,

this is not question of slow movement or specific applications. Touchpad simply does not recognize that user is touching it - it is problem of distance of movement when touchpad starts to react. It is enough when I want to choose an item e.g. from dropdown menu in an app or choose a specific letter in a word etc. It is too uncomfortable and sometimes almost impossible. At first I have to "wake up" the touchpad by fast movement and after that I can finally select an item what I want. So if the touchpad is designed to work by this way, it is designed badly. Especially when laptops of other manufacturers (which also use precision touchpad) do not have such problems.

Laptop is mobile device so your answer to buy external mouse for so basic operations as I mentioned above is not acceptable. I don't want to be too ironic but you could also answer "buy desktop, it's better".

I understand that you can't do anything about it yourself but I don't understand why Acer does not want to update the touchpad drivers as it is definitely driver issue (as I mentioned there is no problem with the "delay" e.g. in Linux). Especially when Nitro laptops belong to Acer's bestsellers and moreover they are quite expensive...
