I have an Acer Aspire V5-572G-6679 (Win 8.1). The wifi is so weak, It will only works a few feet from the router. No other devices have issues connecting with the router and I've had the router a long time without issue. I've tried connecting when all other devices are turned off. I can say with some certainty his is not a router issue.

I've tried in several other locations to connect to other routers and the issue is the same.

Lots of Acers seem to have wifi issues so after updating drivers didn't help I reloaded windows, but it was no better, I updated the driver again, but that was still no help, so I replaced the wifi card (Qualcomm Atheros ar5bwb222), but the issue persists. I've had the latest Acer driver installed (10.0.0.225) and tried another one I found on driverscape.com that appears to be the latest version number for the card (10.0.0.287) but still can't connect more then 6 feet from router.

I have to use an external USB adapter, which is getting old, I only have 3 USB ports.

Will a new card fix my issue? Any suggestions on a card that will?

I've scaned for malware/viruses and I'm clean.
I've reloaded windows.
I've replaced with another Qualcomm Atheros ar5bwb222
I've updated to latest drivers on Acer.com
I've updated to latest on net

This is my first Acer, please help me to not make it my last.

if you are still under warranty, call Acer support service, if not can you give a look at the wifi adapter if the 2 antenna plugs are well plugged?

I opened the case to replace the card, which I believe has voided the warranty ( because who would ever want to upgrade the RAM, or install an SSD ). The connections were on good when I opened it, and I put them on correctly when I closed it.

so probably is the wireless adapter not working good.

    the latest driver is .333:

    http://ftp.station-drivers.com/index.php/outils/func-startdown/1168/

(100% trustable website, the exe is .7z self extracting archive)

by the way i doubt it will fix your issue, i suspect you need to change the wifi adapter.

I might have been a little quick to celebrate. Smiley Sad

Sine posting it's dropped out 3 times, and I've had to run the troubleshooter to reconnect.

Still, it's better than it was, but still not what it should be.

have you tried to check some settings on wifi power management?

    Windows logo key + x
    click on Device manager,

    click on network adapter,

double click on your wifi adapter,

probably there is a tab labeled power management, disable the power saving and click on OK.

check if this will prevent the dropping.
