v7 start with lid closed

My acer v7 has a start button located on the side. I though the start  button was placed there so the computer could be started with the lid closed, but the computer wont start with lid closed. Nothing happens when start button is pressed.

Re: v7 start with lid closed

Which is a GOOD thing, right?  If you want to use your laptop you're going to have to open the lid anyways.  Can't imagine a good scenario where you need to turn on your laptop without having to open the lid.

HOWEVER, if what you want is to leave/keep the laptop on and not have it turning off when u close the lid - the option is in your power management settings.  There is an option where u can specify/choose what happens when u close the lid - sleep/shutdown/do-nothing.

Or the THIRD option from Intel Smart Connect - it will periodically take your laptop out of sleep to check for updates/email/messages.  Although it's practically useless in a laptop because you'd have to open the lid to be able to view them to begin with.

Re: v7 start with lid closed

There is one really common scenario where you want to keep the lid closed: When connected to external monitor, keyboard and mouse.

Please leave comments regarding the start button and closed lid, nothing else.

Re: v7 start with lid closed

Just tried it with my V7-482PG - you can tinker with your power plan or just choose high performance mode and change a couple of things.  It's not quite what you're looking for but u can wake your laptop with your keyboard; probably the best solution in your situation.

Basically ensuring that your computer goes into sleep mode in the power plan settings and under USB selective suspend setting - disable it.  And there's one other thing to check as well - go to Control Panel - Device Manager.  Look for you keyboard.  In my case it was listed as "HID Keyboard Device", choose the power management tab and make sure the "Allow this device to wake the computer"; mine was already on by default but check anyways.

That should do it!  Put your laptop to sleep and wake it up with your keyboard whenever.
