Here we are almost five months later and this same issue is confounding I dunno how many thousands of folks as evidenced all over the Internet. I have spent hours and hours on this. Aspire V5 122P. I've reset the whole os, updated the BIOS here, got all Windows updates including the optional ones, disabled antivirus, etc. etc. It gets as far as downloading, analyzing, updating, gathering info and then "we're installing Windows 8.1 We'll let you know when we're done". Then about four hours later, "This app wasn't installed. Something happened..." Very useful information - not! What is the friggin deal with this?

If you have installed the latest BIOS, Windows 8 drivers, and installed all critical and important updates and still experiencing problems with the update, please visit Update to Windows 8.1 from Windows 8 for more information.
After you install all critical and important updates I would make sure to restart the system so these updates can be installed fully. I have seen where some people will install the updates but did not restart the system so they can install completely and this will cause the error message you have received in some cases.
I do show that this model is eligible to be updated to Microsoft's free Windows 8.1 update and do not understand why you are experiencing this problem.
If you are still unable to perform the update I would recommend contacting Microsoft for further assistance as this is their update.
