Update to Windows 8.1 causing problems with S7-392

Since upgrading to Windows 8.1, I have been experiencing frustrating issues with my S7-392.

The two major issues at this point are:

1.   When running on battery power, it intermittently shuts off.  It happens whether I'm using or not using.  I've fiddled with the power options such as disabling sleep, etc.

2.  When waking from Sleep or Stand-By (not sure which mode it is in), by opening the lid, I will see the Acer logo sceen ad "Starting Automatic Repair" will start.   Then it goes to some screen where it says it couldn't repair and do I want to restart or go to Advanced Options.

I've updated all of the drivers and BIOS to the latest versions which were released 10/13.

At this point, I feel like I want to revert back to the original factory settings.

Is anybody else having these issues after updatig?

I had exactly the same symptoms (though no Windows 8.1 upgrade was involved)  Here is the post that seems to have solved my problem:

Re: Update to Windows 8.1 causing problems with S7-392

After some additional testing, I think I've narrowed this problem down to being a driver issue.

It seems that the laptop only shuts down if it is left idle on battery power.   This leads me to believe that it has something to do with Power Saving.

Does anybody know which driver would control power saving or sleep, hibernate functions?   I want to try uninstalling the driver and go back to the factory set version.

I had a problem with the latest Bluetooth driver, which was resolved after I uninstalled it.  So I'm thinking this is the same deal.

Re: Update to Windows 8.1 causing problems with S7-392

Usually, Windows itselft is the one that takes care of the power features of a laptop.

You may have installed a 3rd party software that takes it over, like acer ePower or that sort of softwares.

I'm pretty sure a hardware driver cannot make your computer go to sleep.

I know it's a very time consuming taks, but IMHO, the best solution would be a clean Windows reinstall, yif you cant find the source of the issue. Or a factory restore, whatever suits you.

Re: Update to Windows 8.1 causing problems with S7-392

I went to Lowes and bought a cheap Torx precission set for $5.98.

Sure enough, the middle screw was loose.  To the point of almost being completely off.   In fact all of the screws on the back of the case were loose.  I've even lost one!

Anyway, thanks for posting the solution.

I'm having the same problem. It seems to stabilize after a few reboots, but it's a nuisance.
