I just realized that my Acer S7 391 is magnetic. Is this a problem, is it meant to be magnetic and why?

Hello ToledoOne, I looked up the specs for your unit and it listed the metal as aluminum. Is it magnetic when it is turned off?

Well, i just tried and now it is not magnetic even when it is on. Last week paper clips stuck to it and I even was able to lay the screen on a metal shelf and type on the keyboard hanging in mid air and the screen back laying on the metal shelf stuck too it firmly from magnatism. Very Strange. I wish I was making this up but no.

It was being used on battery when I discovered this...I have witnesses to the fact that I had metal items stuck to it and was typing on it with the keyboard in mid air but it certainly is not showing that issue this morning.

So I unplugged and after about five minutes tested for magnatism again and behold, a paper clip stuck to the back of the moniter as well as a pretty large knife.

Hi ToledoOne,
They are there by design and you should not notice them other then the knife sticking out of the top of your S7. ![]()
The main purpose they serve is for sensors in the body of the notebook to know when the lid is opened or closed so that it can wake or get into sleep/standby.
Maybe we can start a trend of people taking pictures of funny stuff magnatized to their S7? Seriously, be careful though and don't damage your system.

Maybe Acer needs to add the following to the 392 tech spec:
Can be used as a compass (you never know when your GPS might fail).
