Missing Dolby Home Theatre v4, Aspire S3 after windows 8.1

[ Editado ]

Hi everyone, after essentially being forced to update to Windows 8.1 I lost the functionality of Dolby Home Theatre v4 for my Aspire S3-391, and in general the sound was really low even at max volume for internet pages especially. After scouring the internet, it seems there are no clear answers to this common problem as yet. But please direct me to it if I'm mistaken!

What I've tried: I uninstalled the realtek audio driver, downloaded the corresponding one from the acer website: http://www.acer.co.uk/ac/en/GB/content/drivers and installed it and rebooted. I now have sound back and it is definitely better, volume-wise. Upon opening the folder within the driver labelled PCEE4, which contains the Dolby files, if I click on DolbyHomeTheater.msi to install it I get the following error message:

Now I'm certainly not a gifted techy person but this seems ridiculous, since I've taken the precise file, for the precise model, for the precise version of windows. So why is this Dolby file here if it can't be installed?

I've seen various other users with similar problems across the internet, with suggestions ranging from it's impossible, to doing a full system restore then some complicated procedure to migrate the previously installed version of dolby when you upgrade to 8.1, again! - I really don't want to spend the best part of my weekend on this, just on the hope of getting slighty better sound! But if there were a simple solution to getting dolby back I would be delighted - let's hope Acer has now resolved this problem, or Dolby has released a downloadable version for Windows 8.1 for what must be almost everyone who bought this machine with factory set Windows 8

Cheers folks, and perhaps worth mentioning that I really appreciate the fine work you guys do to allow us lesser mortals to get through such challenges, and learn a little bit along the way :-D

Re: Missing Dolby Home Theatre v4, Aspire S3 after windows 8.1

heisginger,

I am sorry Dolby is not working for you after updating to Windows 8.1. I can assure you that we have not encountered this problem when updating models with the Dolby Home Theatre v4 software. I would recommend performing a factory restore to defaults as I could not tell you why this problem has occured.

After restoring the system to factory defaults, I would recommend following our upgrade path; http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/update-to-windows81.
