This quite interesting, but has anyone else duplicated this fix? Also, doesn't the elimation of the second antenna drastically reduce the reception range?
I have dissasembled other laptops (Sony Z) in the past but not as thin as the S7. Shouldn't there be a way to turn off the diversity in the device manager/network adapter/advanced section? I have been using an Edimax Nano 150 USB adapter (EW-7811Un) in place of the Atheros WiFi not becacause of disconnects but rather a problem with reception in a specialized band at the hospital at which I work. The Edimax is the only one of five micro WiFi adapters that I have tried which easily works with Windows 8. It allows you to change the diversity settings in the device manager advanced settings.
You may wnt to try it. It's quite small and inexpenive.

This is craziness. Even though I am capable, I am not disassembling my new notebook just to make it function properly.
We need a real fix from Acer. My wifi drops constantly, and I am on the .218 drivers. It makes the notebook almost unusable. If I do not get this resolved soon, I will be returning this and buying something else - something not Acer.

FWIW
I want a s7 to, butt the wifi problem....
Now I am using an old Dell laptop (latitude E4300 on XP) and had the same problems two year ago.
I read somewhere the switch the bluetooth part off in the bios so I did.
Now I am using one usb port fort a wireless mouse and it works super.
Maybe someone can look into the bios if it is possible to switch the bluetooth part off.
And of course will it help...
If yes, well it is a big shame...

I agree it is a crazy situation! The problem solves itself on my laptop if I use the Opera browser - I am running
Version
12.14
Build
1738
Platform
Win32
System
Windows 8
Under Internet Explorer I cannot stay connected for 3 minutes!
It seems there are different fixes for different people, but try Opera and see if that works.
