Re: Acer Aspire V5 Touch Windows 8 Wifi Issue

I've experienced these kind of problems too. It doesn't usually disconnect but it does hang in the middle of page loads and it lags whenever I'm playing lan / online games.

I don't have the same v5 touch, mine is a lower v5-171, but I think they do have the same Wlan card.

If your wlan card is the same as mine (Qualcomm Atheros Wifi / Bluetooth Combo), then the solution is to disable the bluetooth. This is not just an Acer problem, but almost every laptop that uses the same device.

How to do this?
>Open My Computer Properties

>On the Left side, click Device Manager

>Collapse Bluetooth then double click Bluetooth USB Module

>Click Drivers tab

>Click Disable

>Restart PC

This worked for me and hopefully will work for you too.

Re: Acer Aspire V5 Touch Windows 8 Wifi Issue

Hurrah

The poster immediately above gets the point.

It really isn't just an issue for acer but also for other manafacturers. Either on this thread or a related one about wi fi issues on another Acer I mentioned this issue. It is also to a great extent dependant on which chips your wireless router uses.

To be blunt we see lots of these issues and they can be fixed by a combination of changing wireless channels/ disabling wireless N transmission - hardly ideal as its faster-/disabling bluetooth etc, to be fair non of which are ideal solutions.

Then there is the path wee adopt - we replace the inbuilt wireless card for another chipset derivative one and get no issues at all. Unfortunately Qualcom / Atheros the manafacturers of these wireless cards have effectively created the issues.

Re: Acer Aspire V5 Touch Windows 8 Wifi Issue

The point is, it is a known issue.  You shouldn't have to disable bluetooth (which didn't work in my case)  You shouldn't have to be a techie and go into device manager, change router channel etc.

It works perfect on wireless G, surely all it takes is a change in the driver to connect at 54Mb/s until they can write a driver that overcomes the problem.

No other mobile device I have has a problem, whether it be mobile phone, tablet, laptop, desktop, Wii, Smart TV.  The list could go on.

Windows 8 is not designed to be tech friendly and have tom **bleep** and harry tweak the settings.  If it is a Qualcomm issue, then they should post out a wireless dongle to everyone who has the problem until they come up with a driver that works.

Re: Acer Aspire V5 Touch Windows 8 Wifi Issue

I purchased a USB wifi adaptor and that has improved things greatly, although it still seems to drop and reconnect, it simply drops less frequently and reconnects much more quickly.

Absolutely not cool that we have to deal with this at all. Shouldn't have to buy another product to make my laptop work. Nor should I have 1 USB port dedicated to the wireless card.

Acer better fix this. I work at a consumer class action law firm, and I'm itching to get into defective products.

Re: Acer Aspire V5 Touch Windows 8 Wifi Issue

Very glad to have found this forum - I took delivery of my Aspire V5 517 yesterday, and my joy turned to disappointment quite rapidly (and that was after having started to get to grips with Window 8).

 My driver version is 11.15.

Can somebody please post a link to the driver that seems to actually make this thing work for more than 30 minutes at a time?  In the meantime, I guess I can only get in contact with the supplier and ask them 'IF' they're aware of the issue...

Once you get your new V5, just go to Acer's website, out in your Serial Number and Dowload the latest Athereos Lan Driver update. Your WiFi connection will be consistent and it wpnt drop you every 30 seconds

Re: Acer Aspire V5 Touch Windows 8 Wifi Issue

HOW TO FIX IT!!!!!   hey all so idk if any of you got this answered... I searched high and low to figure out how to fix it and finally someone shed some light on it for me... if you go to acer.com then click on downloads you can download a different driver... you can either look up the product in the menu or if it isnt listed as mine wasnt then just type in the serial number above and babang! it found it... select the driver that you want...(my aspire v5 touch runs on atheros 10.0.0.221 now i believe) I'm just giving you that number off the top of my head and i could be wrong, but either way the driver will be there and you just download it run setup.exe on it and restart your laptop and it should be working ... mine did it a couple more times the first night but now its been three days and not a single glitch. also make sure you have the box unchecked on your driver so that your comp can't turn it off to save power... :smileyhappy:
