Acer 8572G - 6647 upgrade memory specs

I have had this computer for 2 or 3 years and I would say that it is finally slowing down. I would say that I am a power user but very patient but I think my patience is wearing thin. So I am going to be adding an ssd and some more memory.

Where do I find the specs of maximum memory for my computer? I looked on Acer for the user guide and all they had was a GUG (basically a general user guide for all travelmates).

The specs that I have on the sticker beside me is:

Intel core i5-480M (2.66Ghz, 3MB L3 cache)

4GB DDR3 Memory

If I wanted to go the maximum memory my little beastie will take what would I buy?

You can upgrade upto 8GB for memory, try Crucial memory advisor:http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/compatible-upgrade-for/Acer/travelmate-8572

I tried to tool from Kingston and Crucial and they gave me different answers. Apparently there were different motherboards associated with the Acer 8572. The end part is really important and the 6647 model was only available in Canada and was not available as an option in either tools.

Well, not so much. It installed and the system recognized it but I kept getting weird problems. I was doing a bunch of things at the same time so I thought it had to do with the new system install but just on a lark I went back to the 4G and things stopped being wonky.

The things that were wonky, included:

Flash player on firefox and chrome dying and bringing browser down with it

syntpenh.exe taking up 75% of CPU space when a window was moved

The machine actually noticeably slowed down. It could be RAM that was faulty, so how would i test that?

Hello Connie,

Which memory sticks did you buy and install? Samsung?

To test it:

1- You install the new memory sticks (be careful to the static electricity).

2- You check in the bios setup utility if you see 8Gb memory size.

3- You test "manually" with the memory diagnostics tool of Windows 7 (at the end of page).

If you detect no problem, I'll give you an other tool.

The test passed. 100% okay. The bios detected the memory.

I am unsure what is going on.

I figured out what was going on. I had a piece of software installed that did disk partitioning in order to set up the new SSD drive I bought. It was by EaseUS todo backup and it did a great job in splitting my old hard drive into two different drives (the internal SSD for the system and the external HD for the files) but I didn't remove it. It started eating memory but it wasn't listed in the task manager processes, it could only be seen in the resource monitor. So every time I did a restart everything was fine but after a while it would degrade. I leave my compy running all the time so I only do restarts when installing or trying to fix stuff. So everything I tried to do would work ... for a while.
