aspire r7 screen blank after sleep or hibernate

My aspire R7 won't wake up from sleep or hibernate, or if it's woken up, I can't tell as the screen is blank.  This has been a problem for a while but I just didn't have the time to try to trouble shoot it.  Today I searched for similar problems and found something on the acer support site (http://acer.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1566/related/1) implying it might be a problem that was fixed with a BIOS update, but when I try to run the extracted BIOS update file from the acer site (http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers), I get the following error message:

bios update error screen grab.JPG

It looks like I'm on version 2.04.  The current version at acer is 2.09.  I tried that first and got the same message.  I then tried 2.08 in case you can't jump from 2.04 to 2.09 but got the same error (that's the screen shot above).  I can't find 2.05 anywhere to try that out.

Can someone please help? I tried the acer chat but it said I'm outside of warrantee.  A mistake in the bios on my computer (which is the problem according to acer's own website) should not be an isssue of warrantee!!

    aspirer7probs,

I would like to look into this for you, would you please provide the first ten characters of the serial number please?

[edited to comply with guidelines] Thanks for looking into this for me! I really appreciate it.  One more peice of information.  It looks as though if I manually put it to sleep, the computer can wake back up with a hit of a key, etc.  It's if it goes to sleep on it's own, because of power settings saying to turn screen off after X mins or go to sleep after Y mins, that I can't recover it.

I am not sure where you found a 2.09 bios for the R7, or which R7 you have.

the latest bios I know for the R7 572 is 2.04

The model is actually a R7-571. I think I might have posted you the SNID instead of the serial #. Please let me know if you need whichever number I didn't give you.

have you tried right-clicking the bios updater file, and "run as administrator"?

sometimes, executive file does funny thing when this particular option isnt chosen
