Window 8.1 sucks and I can't work with it. It is the factory OS in the computer I just bought. I had not idea that 8.1 was so different and the salesman at Walmart didn't alert me to 8.1 being so different than the Windows 7.0 I am used to.
Someone told me that you could get rid of the tiles and have a more traditional view replace it without replacing the whole operating system. Can this be done? I only have 3 days in which to return this computer so would appreciate a quick reply. Thanks. Dave

Hi Dave
Download the excellent Classic Shell program. This can give you a Windows 7 like Start Menu, and is fully customisable! You can even boot straight to the desktop if you wish.
Something else you can do in Windows 8, to make it more like 7, is to allow Internet Explorer (or other browser) open in desktop mode, and set program defaults to traditional desktop programs, like Windows Media Player etc
You will (almost) never see the Windows 8 Metro screens again!
Hope this helps!

Can boot directly to Desktop with 8.1. See here.
