You may need to install the service packs manually in order to use the update site. Also, let it work a long time for the first update.

You do not state what computer model you have. That would help answer questions about the operating system.
Installing a different Operating System
Please also be aware that support for Windows XP from Microsoft will cease as of April 2014.
This will include no further Windows or security updates.

You are getting the following error:
KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR STOP: 0x0000007A
According to a Microsoft answer here, this may be due to a hard drive error.
I would recommend that you perform a CHKDSK and repair any errors.
If you are unable to repair the errors or continue to have issues, please contact your local Acer technical support for assistance.

The link you refer to is too long to read.
Nobody could solve that problem there.
I tried a few things, no solution.

I'm sorry that it's too much information for you to attempt to resolve your issue.
Perhaps if you went to the last post and looked at the summary from the Microsoft employee, it would help.
How did you "reinstall" Windows XP on the system?
From Acer recovery media?
Have you attempted to scan for hard drive errors, as I suggest above?

On start Wndows always performs a CHeckDisk
I also tried to uninstall the Norton antivirus and then install FSecure
If not uninstalled properly, Norton could cause problems - is that so ?
The uninstall process needs a separate tool ?
I have used the HD recovery i e on start press Alt and then F10 a few times, then then write 000000
It is what the Acer support mailed to me. But they are very sparse with mail support

If Windows is performing a CHKDSK on boot, EVERY time you boot, you most likely have a hard drive problem.
You will need to seek assistance to replace the hard drive.

Such a repair would cost about half the price of a new laptop
I have read the end summary of the suggested link
I cannot do the "run as administrator"; there is no such command
Therefore, those steps are not possible to follow.
