Hi,

I have a M5-481PT-6414. Ever since I installed the new Windows 8 update, it keeps on prompting me to activate Windows by entering the product key. I cannot remember whether the product key came with this laptop when I bought it or not. It's time to format my laptop but I cannot go forward without a product key. What do I do?

Have you had any repairs or hardware replaced on your system? Have you ever loaded a different version of any operating system on your computer? Microsoft has an article on this topic. Make sure you don't meet any of these criteria.

Windows 8.1 should not be asking for a product key. Have you made sure all windows updates are installed? If you have an the product is still asking for a product key, I recommend you contact technical support in your region.
