I had windows 8 installed on my laptop, but since I had problems with it (constantly freezing after going into sleep or when logging in) I decided that I wanted to get windows 7. Unfortunately I cannot find any drivers for windows 7, as the only ones are for windows 8. Is it seriously the case?

There is a fair chance that WIndows 8 drivers may work on Windows 7, unless anyone has experience, it's a case of try it & see.

Using a program like Speccy or Belarc Advisor, you can find out the make/model of your hardware, like touchpad, LAN, wireless etc and then you can check the manufacturer's website for drivers.

Quite often, Windows Update (Set to find updates for "Windows & other products from Microsoft update" will find drivers too. Obviously, you'll need a LAN or wireless one for that!
