    NB.ML811.004 - Aspire E5-571-588M

It's OK. You have already the bracket and the bezel for the ODD.

I appreciate your help, but I have no clue where to find the drives you list.

I also don't have any bracket or bezel. The ODD bay has a blank in it and the bezel isn't removable to install on an add-on ODD.

I was looking at this drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827151271&ignorebbr=1

    Would it work you think?

    Hello,

    I make a little mistake (a bad copy/paste):

    NX.ML8AA.004 - Aspire E5-571-588M

    For the DVD drives:

KO.0080D.014 - HLDS GUA0N (Hitachi LG Data Storage)

For me, you have already these parts:

    42.ML9N2.001 - ODD BEZEL

42.ML9N2.002 - DUMMY ODD (remove this one)

    33.ML9N2.003 - ODD BRACKET

Do you see the connector (power+sata)?

Laurent_14, thanks but NO clue! The burner you link is the same as any out there, but....

How do you attach an optical drive?? I can't find any with the needed tab on the back to secure it in place.

Has anyone added an optical drive to an Aspire E5-571??

    Hello,

Watch this video. That's an Aspire V5 but it's the same way.

Normally, you have a screw in the axis of the DVD drive or the dummy ODD.

Laurent_14, thanks again for your time.

It is very hard to see, but if you pause just right you see that ODD drive (in your video link) has a tab on the back that holds the drive in the laptop. I have yet to find a drive that has that tab on the back to secure the drive in place (including the one you link).

    Go to this link: http://www.myfixguide.com/manual/acer-aspire-e5-571g-disassembly/

See the tab on the back of the blank ODD once you remove it? That is what I need. This laptop has NO points to screw the drive in from the sides. YOU MUST HAVE THAT TAB ON THE BACK TO SECURE THE DRIVE!

I have built my own computer since 1999. I have yet to run across any laptop, ITX small form factor, or PC that is this hard to upgrade. I have a 9.5mm drive in a SFF rig that I tried to use just to get Win7 installed on an SSD upgrade and it has no where to mount, AND is too short and doesn't even come to the outer edge of the laptop. It sits recessed back about half an inch. What?? It's a slot load and wouldn't pull the DVD in correctly anyhow so I couldn't even get Win7 on it yesterday. Again, just a pain of a laptop and most likely my last ACER purchase going forward.

BTW, I also created a bootable thumb drive with Win7 on it and can't get this acer to boot to the USB drive. I set it correctly in the bios, but no boot. It boots fine in other machines.

I'm scared to go buy a USB ODD because I almost feel like this toy laptop won't boot to it either!

I'm already on my second stick of memory I'm trying to get to work. The first stick of Kingston wouldn't work, and testing various sticks of memory in this machine is a real treat when you have to take the WHOLE mobo out to cahnge it! New stick will be here tomorrow. I have low hopes.

    Hello,

Ok! I understood what you want. It's the ODD bracket. I already gave you the part number.

A part number is a far cry from actually finding one for sale.

    Where can I buy it??

    Thanks -Jim

    Hello Jim,

1- The link was to show you an ODD bracket (M930).

    2- I found the part in France (I'm french). It's a NEW part. The price is 45 €/60 USD. It's crazy!Smiley Surprised

The advantage of bracket: The brands buy one ODD model and they mount it on many laptops with

        differents brackets.

In this case, each bracket is specific to the laptop and the ODD. I hope my explanation is clear...

3- Some people like me make it themselves with a "angle" profil. I use the dummy ODD as reference.

4- If you have some difficulties to boot on an USB flash drive, I'm not sure you wouldn't have the same

issue with an external DVD drive.

I think you should create a new topic about this issue. I guess it's a bios issue.
