I want to record a scripted presentation on my Acer 5733Z-4477 laptop, then copy the recording to a cd, so I can listen to the recording in my car to practice the presentation.

Download & install Audacity. This free program is excellent for recording on your PC. You can record from a source (IE anything that is connected to Line In), you can record from a microphone, or anything that is played through your soundcard/speakers.

It is relatively easy to use, but take a little time getting used to it and its settings. Once you've recorded what you need, you can export the sound as a .WAV file, and use Windows Media Player (or your favourite audio program) to burn to CD.
