Try following this link to unhide those partitions to Win8 explorer using the diskpart command as administrator. Then you may be able to transfer them onto a USB stick and use it for recovery.

Sorry Diane. The subject matter was the Acer 5542 laptop so I assumed that's what everybody was focussed on. Tablets are usually held together with plastic snaps, no screws, that must be pried open at the seams, sometimes the snaps break unfortunately. At any rate, it would be helpful to know the model number of your tablet. Also you may have better luck posting on the Acer tablet discussion forum instead of the laptop & notebook forum.

SOLVED IT EASY! Just bought my ACER and had the same black screen problem. Finally figured it out!
This is it: when I turned my acer off for the day ....... or thought I did........ it turned out that it was only going into SLEEP MODE........ so that during the night the battery would drain and I could not get it to fully turn back on in the morning. I would only get the first ACER page and then it would go dark. (Kind of like your cell phone when it won't work when the battery is drain and takes a while to charge back up before you can use it.
He's how to solve the problem. It worked for me! GO INTO YOUR SETTINGS. THEN SYTEMS, THEN SECURITY AND THEN POWER OPTIIONS. The computer comes from the factory with all three optiions set to SLEEP MODE in both battery and hard wired sutuations. KEEP THE "SLEEP" one in SLEEP MODE. CHANGE THE "CLOSE the COMPUTER" TO "DO NOTHING" AND CHANGE THE TURN OFF COMPUTER TO "TURN OFF!!!!"
I did this and it now works just fine. Simple fix! Good luck!

I'm assuming you have an Aspire 5542 laptop running Win7. I'm also assuming you can see a task bar to start the internet browser. Does your mouse pointer stay lit when you move it into the black screen area? If so, right click the mouse pointer in the black screen area. If a menu appears for personalizing or adjusting the screen, try to adjust some of the fairly-self explanatory settings to get the screen to display it as you would like. Report back.
Thanks

>>> I can see cursor just have nothing at all to click and have no control>>>
What happens when you right click in all that nothingness?
