Do you get any error messages when you attempt to search for windows updates? If you do, without paraphrasing, could you tell us exactly what the error message says?
To troubleshoot this issue, we can try resetting windows update components, but first i would like to recommend scanning for malware just to make sure the system is clean and not being hampered by the presence of malware.
Please download, install, update and run a full scan with Malwarebytes antimalware, linked below.
Malwarebytes. (MBAM) Free.
When done remove anything found, reboot immediately to complete the removal process, and repeat the process untill the scans run clean.
For good measure, also run a full scan, using the microsoft online safety scanner from the link below.
Microsoft Safety Scanner

When we are reasonably sure the system is clean, please refer to the link below for steps to either run the automated windows update troubleshooter, or if you are so inclined, manually reset, following the steps laib out in the KB Article linked below.

Good luck and if you have any further questions, post back.
