Hi,
I installed windows 8.1 as soon as it was out on my Acer aspire 4750g and I am quite please with it.
However I just noticed now that my wifi card (Qualcomm Atheros AR5B97) does not support 802.1N.
I cant tell for sure wither it ever worked on 802.11n with previous OS, I just faced the problem today.
My router is configured in both (g) and (n), and my other HP laptop connects to 802.11n just fine.
From the device manage (Porperties -> Advance I acan see any option to enable or disable 802.11n).
The wierd thing is that there is an option to enable "ad-Hoc 802.11n" but obviously I dont care about ad hoc...
I am sure the card is supposed to support this wifi standard (my wifi is in the 2.4 Band) but somehow it does not work.
Is this a reported problem with windows 8.1 and this model?
Is there any driver I did not find that could help me?
Thanks in advance

Hi Max
Researching online, the Atheros AR5B97 wireless adapter is N capable but only a single-band model and is not capable of 5Ghz.
Try the Acer support site for your region and select "Drivers & Manuals" then enter the details of your laptop to see if there is an updated driver for Windows 8.1

ll do that now and keep you guys posted. Thanks for the help.
Just a quick update, I managed to find an old driver on Atheros side earlier this week.
It was not design for W8.1, but when I installed it AND used the Atheros client to connect to the network it worked.
However after a few hours I got a BSOD with IRQL NOT LESSS OR EQUAL or somthing like this.
I restored form a previous backup to solve the issue and was able to login.
I reinstalled the Atheros driver and client and everything was working fine... for a few days...
I got the BSOD again and I had to reinstall W8.1 this time...
It must be because of the driver, the only major change i did was this driver and install XBMC (incl. Apple bonjour service).
Let me see if your link works... only alternative would be to try with Win8 and then win 7...

Hi,
I Couldnt find the drivers for windows 8.1 on your link.
I was able to find them somewhere else last week though but it did not solve my problem.
The only thing I see is either to reinstall the other drivers but I dont want to end up rebuild my omputer every tow weeks when the drivers deceide to kill my OS...
Hence I will try to reinstall windows 7 see if the drivers there supports the 802.11n...
But one thing is clear to me: the current drivers for indows 8 or 8.1 do not support 802.11n.
D anyone knows more about that? Because I might be the only one but I kinda like win8.1 ![]()
