Hi all

I have an acer aspire E1-531 which is less than a month old. The only things I have loaded on it is Microsoft Office 2013 and Firefox. I have also activated the Mcafee AV trial.  I haven't even set up the email on it yet.

Today, I was working off the battery on a Word document stored on a usb drive. No problems. Saved everything, closed it down.

Restarted about an hour later and I get the Acer welcome screen, then a blank screen with the mouse pointer. The touch pad moves the pointer around but nothing else. I have tried starting in safe mode using the shift f8 but that hasn't worked. What is going on and how can i fix it?

One thing you can try doing if you have the Windows 8 installation is try to re-install windows 8 on the drive.

Try a Dirty boot, consisting on power on and off the unit until you force the Autohealing mode, go to Advanced Options go into troubleshoot n restore or reset your PC.

Thanks - this seemed to work. Windows 8 then installed an update and off it went as usual.

Hi, Did you restore the OS or factory reset the unit?  What kind of update caused the problem?  Did you received a Blue Screen?  If so do a Complete clean Factory Reset, before runnig any update go and change your update instalation setting and set it up to install mannualy.  Go a few at a time to identify the update causing he problem.  Make a Print Screen and send me a message.  Be aware of compatibility issues if the update is for an added software or hardware.

Glad you got it working again.

I would recomend buying A Wndows 7/8 Installation disc in case anything else goes wrong with the machine. I have A Windows installation disc. In case I have to Re install the OS as the last resort.
