Why do I need to be under warranty to contact acer? Or, ask a basic spec question about my model?

I just want to know what AC Adapter and specs, such as voltage/amperage etc. goes with my machine - and for some unknown reason that simple thing is not in the manual, not found in the accessory pages, not found on the website.  This is basic information and it should be supported.  But, you can't contact acer without them checking your warranty status? Really? Does my ability to keep using my machine end with the warranty?
