Hi,
old TravelMate 240 needs new HDD. [Not my main pc!!] Want to keep this operational for various reasons - old gadgets, history, fondness, etc. [I have my ZX Spectrum 48k also]
I know XP only supports up to a certain HDD capacity, but what I don't know is if there would be any constraint due to the age of the laptop (motherboard, etc) that would lower the XP-related capacity?
I would be fitting this myself, so wanted advise as to compatibility.
Many thanks!
Specs:
Acer TravelMate 240 (244LC)
Intel Celeron 2.6 GHz
30 GB ATA/100 HDD [installed with Tosh. Neptune MK3021GAS]
256MB (upgraded to 2GB max)
Win XP pre-installed. [SP 1 originally]
[Purchased, approx 2004]

Hmm. I looked at the prices of ATA 100 2.5' drives and was shocked to see how much they
go for now ! You could use this one and GHOST to mirror your current drive onto it, but
I don't know if this the kind of money you'd want to spend.

This one is a 5400rpm drive.

I should say I did find the bottom one cheaper looking around. Western Digital also offers
a Scorpio Blue in 80 gigs and 5400 rpm and would most likely the one I'd go with.
I have an old Dell 600 Inspiron which I replaced the HD on with an Ultra ATA 100 80 gig Seagate years
ago believe, using XP 32 bit for OS and there were are-zero probs using this drive with XP OS. Works
great for how old it is. I have it as a last resort backup unit.
