So I've used it now for several days after making the suggested change & it has helped. The wifi is faster, still not as fast as my Dell and other household devices, but at least it will open a simple webpage now and play youtube vids after a little buffer time. Thank you for the tip!

The problem isa with the driver. It is faulty and Acer has no fix for it.
THE ONLY SOLUTION is to:
1. Purchase a USB to Ethernet Adapter (I bought a Belkin)
2. Purchase a USB WiFi Adapter (I bought the N300 from Linksys)
Now, first hook up the Ethernet adapter
Disable the built in Broadcom adapter
Go download the USB adapter's drivers from the Linksys website
Extract the folder
Now open Device Manager
Plug in the adapter
The Device Manager will list it as an AC1200
Click to update drivers
Browse to the extracted folder in Downloads
It will now be moved up to be listed Network Adapters
Open search
Search WiFi
Connect to a Network
Select your network and enter your passphrase.
DONE!
Hope this helps. Stop fighting this problem, get a new adapter!
Shame on Acer!
