This message is for Tommy, Acer Tech.
I am having a similar problem with my friend's Aspire 1551-4650.
Ity was left on overnight and in the morning the screen was black, the computer doesn't turn on properly. All I get is an error message WERFault.exe, and after pressing ok, I get the black screen with the cursor running, but nothing else.
If I do contr alt del I get task manager (after a looooong time) and very slowly I can see the different tabs in there.
THere are no programs running, but a long list of services, and nothing responds.
If I exit that, after a long time I am back to black screen.
If I do contr alt del again and try to log off or turn the computer off, I get the error message WERFault again and I am back to the black screen.
I forced rebooting the computer and did alt F10 and it gave me the option of resetting the computer to factory setting or resetting saving the user settings.
Will I lose the files that are not in the Documents folders if I chose the second option? I dont' know what is in the computer and what folders the files are in, and I'd like to back it up before I attempt this. Is there a way to do it?
I just ran the start up repair cycle, and after a long time the result is that "start up repair cannot repair the computer automatically," and it's suggesting I send the info to microsoft.
More details gives me a bunch of problem signatures, among which: 6.1.7600.16383, 192, Auto Failover, 1, no root cause.
What do I do?
Thanks for any help you can give me. I contacted support via chat and the price is too high, for a little more I can get a new netbook. But I really want to back up the files before the computer gets wiped out.
I have another aspire, the same as this, and it's working fine. I was wondering, if I swap the HD, might I be able to access the files in the working computer?
THanks
