Hi, can any one help me? I had a new hard drive put in my laptop and was wanting to know if I can re install windows 7 from the back up discs that I made when I got the laptop. It is an Acer Aspire 5253

While we don't specifically support the 3rd party drive, the recovery media for your Acer should work on the same computer if the HDD has been changed. You may need to format the driver first.

Thank you, I wasn't sure if it would or wouldn't as I thought that the recovery discs used the existing data on drive to reload windows.

it works the other way around. the data in the hidden factory recovery partition <PQservice> is what is used to create the recovery disks or do an alt+F10 re-install. if you didn't make an image copy of this partition and reload it to your new disk, guard your recovery disks like gold as you can not make a new set.
