I got a new Acer Aspire V5 571 yesterday. Is there somewhere in the BIOS I can change a setting to stop the fan making so much noise? Anyone know of any other setting I could change to stop the fan coming on so much? The air vent is not blocked, have the laptop on my desk. I am really disappointed to have this issue on a new laptop.

    Fans are controlled by temperature.

There is no setting in the BIOS or in Windows natively to "stop the fan coming on so much".

If you feel that the fan is abnormally active, you may wish to contact your local service center.

I have the same problem with my new (bought yesterday) Acer Aspire M3 581PT. The fan is on all the time even when the computer is idle. I have much more powerful computers that are perfectly silent. Acer, is this by design or is it a fault on my computer? Thank's!

There really should be option like that and I strongly urge you to suggest for it to be implemented in next bios update!

Most computers have options (in bios or via app) that will let you choose preference between quiet - balanced or cold (but noisier). One could hope for "advanced" section as well, since there are such a few options available in this crippled bios.

I'm using aspire v5-552g and fan is too loud even when computer is running idle, about twice as loud as asus from the same price range I have next to me (both computers are week old and used on the flat desk).

When I start watching movie or anything that will slightly use processor power the fan gets activated in fast mode and gets way too loud. In service center they said it's normal. For comparison, I never managed to get asus to the point where it's fan starts to spin faster. And this is not about asus vs. acer, cause acer is better in this price range, but too loud.

the laptop, or ultra-slim - how you call it runs really cool, but I really wouldn't mind exchanging some heat for more quiet PC.

to: this model seems as a really good value. It's nice / good balance / performance / positioning of ports / best buy in my book - just make it quieter, it's a one day job for one of your coders.

Fact of the matter is that the fan comes on when the cpu reaches a certain temperature. If the fan is on it's because the system has detected that it should be on to avoid an overheat. Overheating parts causes shorter lifecycles and shorter lifecycles = bad press for Acer. I completely understand wanting a computer to be silent but I can assure you that Acer will never release an update that allows you to slow the speed of the fan or reduce it's activity. Acer is left with a decision to either make the unit slightly louder or run the risk of having a unit die faster. If the unit dies faste they will be responsible for the cost of repairs and you would in turn be furious that your device died after only X amount of time. They're choosing the option better of two bad options.

However, you actually can mod your bios to allow you to control the fan speed. If you take a look on google you'll see it's actually pretty easy if you know what you're doing.
