Sorry, but I wasn't looking for the original HD but what drives are compatible as replacement/upgrades. I have the cover off and I have looked at the WD Blue drive, but I want to know where Acer is hiding the hardware compatibility lists for the 3820T? Or any of their laptops? I wasn't very clear and I apologize.....it's no excuse that I'm new here! Thanks for the attempt, KM

No I haven't, and I don't have a clue as to how to do that. I can replace hardware but that's the limit of my ability. Thanks Ken M

Laurent_14,
Thanks for the quick solution. The original drive, as you know, is the WD Blue 320Gb (WD3200BPVT), and I have a friend with a WD Blue 750Gb (WD7500LPCX) is this also compatible (since they are both in the same family of mobile drives)? I only ask because she's willing to give me a real good deal on it, and saving money is always on my mind. Also, I do believe I have the recovery disc somewhere.
On another note, can you please tell me where to find the list of compatibles? I have looked in all the obvious places, but Acer seems to be hiding them from us. Maybe, since this laptop is out of warranty the info is no longer available, but that seems counter-productive if you want to keep customers coming back!
Thanks Again, for your help, Laurent. You appear to be doing a great job.....Ken

Hello Ken,
Thanks for the compliment. I compared the 3 HDD models:
Original HDD
WD WD3200BPVT - 320Gb - SATA 3Gb/s - Cache 8Mb - Height 9.5mm
Toshiba MK7559GSXP - 750Gb - SATA 3Gb/s - Cache 8Mb - Height 9.5mm
New HDD:
WD WD7500LPCX - 750Gb - SATA 6Gb/s - Cache 16Mb - Height 7.0mm
I think it is not compatible.

WOW! I could have made a big mistake there, thanks for all the extra research. Obviously you have more resources than I (I'd still like to know where the compatibles lists are). BTW.....apparently I have a big problem, this laptop does not have a CD/DVD player/writer, so I'm am now sure I don't have any recovery media (discs), so my new problem is: What do I do in this case, make a copy of the recovery info online on a flash drive, and use that to download it to the laptop? or is there another way? I'm probably in way over my head here and really appreciate this forum and I'm glad there are people willing to help the uninitiated learn more.
You have my undying gratitude, Ken

Hello Ken,
As I'm not 100% sure, I prefer to tell you that it's not compatible.
About eRecovery media, you can purchase them from your Acer store. It's not expensive.

Thanks Laurent, I have it on the way now. Appreciate all your help on this one, looks like I'll be up and running in a few days when all my new stuff gets here. You'll probably hear from me again as I'm sure I'll have a problem in the future...Thanks Again, Ken
