OK, Michael, then what happens when you try to run/start the Microsoft Virtual Machine?

It works - so far - but because of my bad experience with it I wanted to change to the VMplayer.

OK, Michael.
Please download and install this free VHD to VMDK (V2V) file converter http://www.starwindsoftware.com/converter
Run this V2V converter.
Then convert the Windows XP Mode.VHD file to Windows Professional.VMDK
Also convert Windows XP Mode Base.VHD to Windows Professional Base.VMDK
Please take note of what folder these new VMDK files are in because we eventually want to copy/move them to VMWare's Virtual Machines folder.

Whatever you are trying to download doesn't seem to be what's advertised on the Starwind Converter site. It's called the Starwind Converter. It's not nameed like any of the names you described. According to the Starwind Converter description---
1. Select your source File (VMDK, VHD, IMG).
2. Choose a location to save the converted data file
3. Click 'convert' and let the converter run
4. Import the resulting file into VMware,
If the Starwind Converter doesn't work out for you as advertised, you can also try WinImage.com. It should also do the VHD to VMDK conversion but it's a shareware program with a 30 day free trial period.

The link you sent opens the DOWNLOAD FREE TRIAL, but NOTHING happens when I click on it. Just in the left lower corner comes a CHAT window...

Michael---
For some reason, same thing is happening to me now. I suggest clicking the chat window and telling them the link doesn't work and asking how do you get the trial version.

The click works, but then the list of possible downloads (also FREE ones) appears. Which one I should choose. Obviously newer versions?

As long as it's called the StarWind Converter for Win7, it should be OK. We need to convert that VHD file to a VMDK file so that the VMWare Player will recognize it.
