I think the problem is that somehow the VM Player does not know what directory the files you found are located that you found with Explorer. I suggest that you open VM Player, click on one of the two WinXP installation. Then edit virtual machine settings. Then click options to see what directory it's now looking for files. You must change that directory to one of the directories you found with explorer. Unfortunately, I can't tell you which one since you apparently tried to install WinXP more than once so you will have multiple directory possibilities. All I can suggest that you try each directory that you found with explorer to see if WinXP will start. If worse comes to worse, we can try to delete to multiple installations and start anew but don't try to delete anything just yet.

tHE WORKING DIRECTORY SHOWS EXACTLY THE ONE I FOUND:
C:\Users\MICHAEL BEER\Documents\Virtual Machines\Windows XP Professional

But a few days ago you said >>>But this appear several times on this c:\>>>
I think this is part of the problem. Too many. There should be only two. And they should also contain files with the following exten sions ---vmxf, vmx, vmsd, vmdk, nvram and some log files. What are the other directories that you found with explorer?

Are all these files in multiple directories (or folders) in or near C:\Users\MICHAEL BEER\Documents\Virtual Machines\Windows XP Professional? How many do you have? There should only be two. If there are more, it probably means there were additional failed installations that we may have to delete so as not to confuse VM Player.

All in the same folder

OK, I think I see the problem. You have too many "Windows XP Professional.vmdk" files. Please tell me how each of the .vdmk files are individually labeled. One is probably labelled "Windows XP Professional.vmdk". Another "Windows XP Professional.vmdk (2) or (copy 2)". How are they named in your folder?

I think it would be easier for me to tell what's going on if you could please post a screen shot of the directory folder and files that are in it.
Thanks
